Chomper (チョンパー, Chonpā) is a Pokémon Ryan caught in the Kalos region and has been his main Pokémon ever since.

In the games[edit | edit source]

History[edit | edit source]

As a wild Pokémon[edit | edit source]

Garchomp debuted as a Gible in Pokémon Y on Kalos Route 13. Gible was caught as part of Ryan's strategy of capturing a new Pokémon to challenge his rival, Sara. He was subsequently named "Chomper."

With Ryan[edit | edit source]

Chomper quickly evolved to Gabite and Garchomp during Ryan's preparation for one of his many rematches with Sara. After locating a Garchompite, Chomper was able to achieve Mega Evolution, marking the completion of his training. The Dragon-type Pokémon battled Sara's own newest member, a Gardeviour named "Vivi," also capable of Mega Evolving. From then on, Chomper and Vivi became their trainers' main battling partners and the two Pokémon became close rivals themselves. Both have had victories and losses against one another.

Departing Kalos for a vacation in Hoenn, Chomper played a major role in the defeat of Team Aqua and Team Magma. He also helped his trainer re-challenge the Hoenn League, whereupon they came out victorious.

In the Alola Region, Chomper mastered Z-Moves alongside his trainer and the pair became Alola's first Champions. At some point, they also challenged the Battle Tree, where they encountered Red and Cynthia, emerging victorious. Afterwards, Chomper was sent to Grand Oak whilst his master traveled back to Kanto briefly before forging ahead to Galar.

Though Ryan did not use Chomper throughout much of his time in the Galar Region, the two reunited when he reached the Crown Tundra. Together they not only defended their title for Champion of Galar, but also fought and defeated the Galar Battle Tower. In Galar, Chomper lost his ability to Mega Evolve, but learned to compensate for this loss with Dynamax. He also gained his Hidden Ability, Rough Skin, after Ryan gave him an Ability Patch.
