Misty's Starmie (Japanese: カスミのスターミー Kasumi's Starmie) is a Pokémon under the command of Misty. It is her signature Pokémon, having appeared in every form of canon she has, and it is quite possibly her starter Pokémon.

History[edit | edit source]

Misty's Starmie first made it's debut when Misty was challenged by Red, used after Red defeated her Staryu. However, Starmie proved helpless against Red's Pokémon, losing and earning Red the Cascade Badge from Misty.

Physiology[edit | edit source]

Starmie, like its pre-evolved form, resembles a sea star. This time its main body is violet but it still retains the gold formation on its front. Starmie’s red jewel core is larger than Staryu’s and has developed to resemble a cut precious stone. The major change that took place upon evolution to Starmie was the growing of a second star on its back. It is semi-attached being able to spin 360°.

Starmie is a genderless species.

Abilities and Traits[edit | edit source]

Starmie’s central core shines with the seven colors of the rainbow when looked at from different angles, but usually shows up red more than any other color. It can also emit electrical waves from the core that are powerful enough to reach the furthest parts of the universe.

It uses its second star to propel itself through the water and even to launch out of the water and fly through the air for short periods of time. This also allows it use attacks like Rapid Spin.

Starmie still has all of the abilities of Staryu including re-growing limbs, changing its skin's color and texture, and using its core for energy attacks.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Starmie is the only Psychic-type, albeit as a secondary type, that has been owned by a main protagonist in the anime. Despite this, its psychic abilities were never shown. Another one of Misty's Pokémon actually showed more of its psychic attributes despite being only a Water-type.
  • Starmie is the only one of Misty's Pokémon in the anime that appeared in HeartGold and SoulSilver.
  • Starmie was able to regenerate its central core when it was shattered. Several of Staryu's Pokédex entries state that it cannot do this; because of this, it is possible to assume that either Starmie's regenerative abilities are much better than Staryu's or that this is one of many inconsistencies between the games and the anime.
  • Starmie knows Zap Cannon, a move it hasn't been able to learn since Generation II.
